High street giant forced to recall ‘harmful’ shampoo as shoppers warned ‘stop using it immediately’

All units of the Amika Mirrorball shampoo from 2023 and 2024 are included in the recall.

The shampoo comes in pink patterned packaging and is sold as part of a set called Shine-O-Sphere which also includes a hair mask, gloss spray and conditioner.

Major online retailers such as Cult Beauty and Sephora have marked the product as out of stock.

Customers have been warned that the shampoo could irritate the scalp.

The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS), the body behind the recall, said: “The product poses a microbiological risk as it could have a change in odour and in rare cases cause temporary irritation due to the presence or potential presence of the bacterium P. Gergoviae.”

Amika has assured customers that their other products are safe.

The brand issued a statement: “We have been monitoring recent feedback citing change in odour and in rare cases, temporary irritation.

“There have been no reported serious adverse health events associated with using this product.

“We initiated this recall after determining that various production batches at our third-party manufacturing site do not meet our stringent quality standards, due to the presence or potential presence of a bacterium called P. Gergoviae.

“If you have the product in your possession, please stop using it immediately, even if the product does not appear to have a change in odour or quality issue.

“We want to reassure you that, after consultation with an independent toxicology group, we are confident the use of this product does not pose a serious health or safety risk to healthy people.

“However, individuals with certain risk factors such as a weakened immune system or broken skin may be more susceptible to infection.”

Flat with ‘Britain’s smallest toilet’ hits rental market

A FLAT is up for rent for £895 a month – but only people with skinny legs can apply as it has Britain’s smallest bathroom.

The room is so tiny half of the bath has been cut away to allow residents to reach the loo.

And those of a larger size may even have to climb into the BATH if they feel the call of nature.

The flat – in a tenement building in Edinburgh, Scotland – initially looks spacious enough.

A one-bedroom flat, it has a generous living area, good-sized bedroom and a kitchen with appliances, as well as a separate dining room.

But when potential renters saw the bathroom they were gobsmacked.

It is just a few feet wide and clearly cut out of another room, meaning the bath has had to be chopped down to size to allow people to get through the door.

Anyone wanting to reach the loo will need particularly slim legs, or be willing to climb into the bath itself to use the lav.

Rental agents ClanGordon say on Rightmove: “Bright and spacious one bedroom available in Meadowbank.

“This property comprises of one double bedroom, living/dining room, fully fitted kitchen and bathroom with shower over the bath.

“Further benefits to the property are gas central heating, ample storage throughout and double glazing.

“Deposit £1095. Council Tax Band B. No pets. No smoking in or around the area.”

But despite crowing about the shower over the bath, they fail to mention the tight squeeze.

Renters found it hilarious on Reddit nd rushed to comment.

One said: “No wonder there is no floor plan!”

Another said: “I’ve seen better bathrooms in Edinburgh tenement flats. Including one where the bath was shoved all the way at the back and the toilet was up against it so you’d have to climb over the toilet to get into the bath.”

Another said: “Imagine rushing for a p**s in the middle of the night. F**K, my shins.”

One said: “Why would you even bother with a bath in that room? Take it out and put a good shower in there instead.”

Another added: “Wow, how do you get to the loo? Apart from being Flat Stanley/climbing on the bath!”

The flat is available from February 10.
